Bassi Falls Teardrop Camping and Hiking

Bassi Falls
Kyburz, El Dorado National Forest
130ft Cascading falls at 5,400 ft of elevation

And we are off!!

Heading out Ice House Road.

Pickett Pen Road

We found a pretty flat and primitive camp off of Pickett Pen Road that looked like the perfect spot to make camp.

Our last camping trip with Ruby. We've upgraded to a Scamp and we decided that we needed one last trip in the teardrop before we say goodbye.

In no time at all, we had things set up and although the fire pit hadn't been used in a while, the foundation was there. We had it set up for a roaring fire in no time.

Plenty of trees for hammocks!

And when hammocks are hung, it's definitely nap:30!!

Our camp is nestled right off to the right. Hard to see from here, which is just what we like.

We decided to take a stroll down the road to see what we could see near our camp.

As we explore beyond the gate, we came across a bridge.

And more bear tracks...

We continued to hike along the river for the rest of the afternoon. Very pretty scenery.
Would be a beautiful place for backpacking.

Ruby in with her nighttime lighting. Time for dinner and bed!

Day 2

With dispersed camping comes outdoor restroom facilities.
We set up camp and I designated this side of the woods as the "ladies room".

In the morning, I was able to get a better look at the grounds of the ladies room and noticed a path in the pine needles.

It may be hard to see in the photo, but I was able to clearly see bear tracks in the morning.
YIKES! I had been out here a couple of times in the middle of the night and always felt a little uneasy. Now I know why!

We headed out on the trail the next day to make our way towards Bassi Falls.

Bassi Creek Trailhead and
Big Silver Creek Group Campgrounds

Camping here would be a great place to stay since it's right by the river.

Cool root system of a downed tree.

We followed the trail as it meandered over the rocks and through the trees.

The rushing river.

Lower Bassi Falls

You can hear it before you see it, but as you turn the corner, there it is Bassi Falls

This really doesn't do it justice. The volume of water was enormous.
The sound of the water crashing to the bottom was awesome.

We decided to hike to the top and take a look at the falls from the top.

And up and over rocks we will go.
Not my favorite thing and it took a while for me to get the courage to do it.

But being on top was totally worth it.

After you cross the huge granite slab, you get to the tippity top.

We decided to take a seat and enjoy our lunch while watching the water rush by.

We were here...

And then to go back down, the direct way.
Couldn't get through a hike without some type of bushwhacking...

But we were soon back on the trail and headed back towards the trailhead.

And in the middle of May, still seeing snow!
